The countdown that matters
Most wedding countdowns count days. The useful version counts deadlines, because those are the dates that cost money if you miss them.

Set reminders two weeks early
Every one of those dates should exist twice in your calendar: once on the day, and once a fortnight before. The two-week reminder is the one that does the work — a balance you knew about a fortnight ahead is a bank transfer, and one you discover on the due date is a problem.
Work the RSVP deadline backwards
This is the single most common countdown mistake. The RSVP deadline is not a fixed number of weeks before the wedding — it is a fixed distance before your caterer's final numbers date. Take that date, subtract five weeks for chasing, and print the result on the invitations. Set it forwards from the wedding date instead and roughly a third of the time you will not have enough chasing room.
