How to adapt the wording

Keep the message short, clear and specific. Include the deadline, website link, named guests or practical detail only where it helps the guest take the right next step.

What a save the date is for

One job: getting the date into people's calendars before they book something else. It is not an invitation, it does not need the timings, and it should not carry the RSVP deadline — that comes later and from a different calculation.

Send them at eight to nine months for a peak-season date, a destination wedding, or any guest list where people are travelling. For a local off-season wedding you can skip them entirely and go straight to invitations at three months.

The three rules

Only send them to people you will definitely invite. A save the date is a commitment. You cannot send one and then not invite.

Include the town, not the venue address. Guests need enough to judge travel and accommodation. The full address belongs on the invitation, and venues occasionally change.

Do not put an RSVP deadline on it. That date depends on your caterer's final numbers date, which you may not have yet, and printing it twice with different values causes real confusion.
